Iram Leon took home the gold in the Beaumont TX “Gusher” Marathon last week, even though he was pushing his six year old daughter across the length of the course…AND that’s not the inspirational part…
Leon was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer two years ago. He’s had to give up a lot of things like driving, work and playing soccer, but running is just “one leg in front of the other”, and so he’s continued, taking his daughter along with him in order to spend more time with her.
According to the hometown paper, the Beaumont Express:
Leon said she is the center of his universe, his only child. Although the marathon does not usually allow strollers, the race organizers made an exception so he could push her throughout the race.
A running group typically paces Leon, but in this race, that fell to the lead pace bicycle. The bike helpers caught video of him singing Bon Jovie during the race on March 9.
He did it his way, alright!
