Terribly sad news from West Virginia this morning. The star of the MTV reality series “Buckwild”, Shain Gandee was killed in an apparent “mudding” accident in the rural mountains near his home. He was 21.
Shain came across on the show as a very likable, fun loving guy, who won women over with his kind heart and sense of humor. He also was a risk taker, who loved “mudding” (four wheeling through muddy backwaters) and once took a ride in the bucket of a front end loader (which prompted producers of the show to issue a warning not to try that at home).
Gandee’s body, along with that of an uncle, David Gandee, and an unidentified third person, were discovered along a back trail near his home in Sissonville, West Virginia. The trio had been out mudding when they became stuck in a muddy, low lying area. Authorities say the exhaust pipe of Shain’s 1984 Explorer was submerged in the mud, which could have cause carbon monoxide poisoning, although the cause of death has not been released.
MTV released this statement: Quote, “We’re shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We’re waiting for more information but at this time . . .
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly.”
“Buckwild” is basically a country version of “Jersey Shore”. The first season premiered in January . . . and it was such a hit that MTV ordered a second season in February. The first season lasted 12 episodes, and averaged 3.2 million viewers.
Production on Season Two has been halted indefinitely . . . but MTV wouldn’t comment on the show’s future, which is now in doubt, naturally.
