Baltimore gets a real treat this weekend, when the American Ninja Warrior Road Show comes to town. It’s an unique sporting event, one that defies categorization.
If you’ve never seen “American Ninja Warrior” — I have some clips for you. Welcome to B-more, Ninjas! People have been waiting months to compete…
It’s an event that draws in all sorts of “outsider” athletes: climbers, parkour, yoga, gymnasts, but nothing but knowing the course itself can prepare you. Rock climbers do well for stretches, but don’t have overall brute strength. Parkour enthusiasts seem most fit for the ninja course, but if they overlook lifting strength, they could be knocked out as well. I’ve seen crossfitters and Navy SEALs fail on the course.
The competition will be all weekend long at Rash Field in the Inner Harbor area of downtown. Friday nights taping are sold out, but there are some slots available for Saturday and Sunday. According to the taping schedule, the Finals will run at 12:30am Sunday. 12:30AM?!?! I hope sleep deprivation was part of your training.
Here’s a look at someone tackling a typical Ninja course. ((Is there such a thing as a typical course?)
So you can see it is great fun to watch, but remember, you do need tickets so make sure oyu go to the above link to secure them.
— Here’s a link to a Sykose article on some White Marsh men preparing for the comp, and how they’ve adjusted their workouts to fit the course. This link includes some video of their preparations.
