At first this seemed like one of those fake ads you see on Saturday Night Live, but apparently this is true, and up and running in Brazil.
We’re entering an age where we’re either gonna all become friends, or we’ll all hate each other. I’m not sure which.
In Brazil, Budweiser is test marketing the “Buddy Cup”, where you can friend someone on Facebook just by toasting them and clicking your glasses together.
When you enter a club or bar, you’re handed a cup. Use your smartphone to activate the cup by scanning the code on the bottom. BAM! Everyone you click glasses with is now your facebook friend whether you like them or not. Because when you’re drunk, you make all sorts of good decisions over who to click with, right? This can never go wrong.
I foresee a lot of people spending fifteen minutes every Sunday afternoon defriending people.
The good news? According to the Consumerist, the cups would only be used at Budweiser sponsored events or Bud booths at beer festivals. But once the technology gets out there — all bets are off.
