Two trailers of what could be huge movies this fall were released today. The Princess Di biopic and the Hobbit sequel.
View them and read my comments…
The Princess Diana biopic, “Diana” looks tastefully done, and should garner attention, but can I tell you, the trailer turned me off a bit. It’s clear they’re going for the “sad Diana” theme of this shy woman who was thrust into the public limelight, but when Naomi Watts finally turns around after the build up of seeing her from behind, it doesn’t work. Because Naomi Watts does not visually look like Diana. And it kind of ruins it for me.
Diana and Naomi look really different, and I feel it will be Watts’ acting skills that bring Diana to life, so a little taste of that goes a long way.
And for some reason the Michael Jackson song “Dirty Diana” popped into my head when I was watching this, and I instantly began thinking of what Diana REALLY thought of that song. And was she really friends with MJ? Or was she humoring the weirdo?
It became painfully clear to me during “The Hobbit” that Peter Jackson was stretching the source material painfully thin. While I didn’t hate “The Hobbit”, I thought it could of used a better editor. It could have been a great ninety minute film.
Thankfully, the trailer for the second of three Hobbit films, features two things that will heal the first film’s problems: Orlando Bloom and the Dragon, which is kept under wraps until the trailers final seconds.
It’s an action-packed trailer, complete with combat with the pale orc Azog, the barrel escape scene from the book, a giant spider creeping up on Bilbo, and a run-in with a beast that could be Beorn, the skinchanger bear-man to be played by Mikael Persbrandt.
Any film that features hot one on one elf and dwarf fighting is alright by me. December 13 is the release date.
