A Facebook page has emerged that pokes fun at the way corporate social media sites are dumb and condescend to the lowest common internet surfer. While it is an entertaining diversion, it says a lot about how little corporate America regards your intellect.
As a guy who can be brand loyal (I’ve had a Chevy for most of my life), I rarely will “like” a brand’s Facebook page. In fact, I just checked my “likes” and the closest thing to corporate I’ve liked are TV shows and bands.
Corporations realize the social media playground is a lucrative one, and so they put up their brand on Facebook, Twitter and various other social sites because all the cool kids are doing it. The result is, well, I’m sure there’s some companies that do a good job of it, but generally it winds up like these examples from the Condescending Corporate Brands Page.
Wow. That last one was especially difficult to figure out.
